Spike Milligan seeks a reply to the unmasked question, delves into the philosophy of life and concludes thet There's a Lot of it About
First show aired on BBC2 Monday 20th September 1982 at 9.0 pm
The first of six programmes starring Spike Milligan, John Bluthal, david Lodge, Keith Smith with David Adams, Suzanne Sinclair, Julia Breck, Alan Clare, Jim Barclay and special guest appearances of Richard Ingrams, David Jacobs, Michael Parkinson
In this programme (which is not suitable of a sensitive or nervous disposition) SPIKE MILLIGAN, the famous author and philosopher, takes an in-depth look at all kinds of wild and exotic life abounding in this anniversaty year (BBCs 60th) and poses the questions he doesn't understand. - From the Radio Times 20th Sept 1982
Reportedly, Spike Milligan wanted to call this programme Q10, but BBC chiefs objected, pointing out that he had already made a number of programmes with very similar names.
Presumably as a reaction to such comments, Spike decided to call the programme There's A Lot Of It About.
In spite of the rather "different" programme name, however, this is very much a continuation of the Q sequence of programmes.
There's A Lot Of It About (1982) contained sketches on nonsensical brilliance. The regular cast (including John Bluthal, Peter Jones, Keith Smith and Bob Todd) played along, often in bemusement or hysterics, creating a unique and unrivalled atmosphere.
Comedy Greats
This spoof documentary captures the highlights of these series (also from Q), featuring such moments as The Lost Forever in the Bermuda Triangle Holiday, The Eurovision Joke Contest, insects auditioning for a David Attenborough series, Michael Parkinson at the Soldierama Massage Parlour, Spike as the singing Viking Maiden and loads more assorted lunacy from the world of an indisputable comic genius.
