Synopsis
"Milligan's War" is a one-volume selected edition of Spike Milligan's war memoirs, published to celebrate the seventieth birthday of one of Britain's funniest old soldiers on 16 April 1988. His war memoirs include, "Adolf Hitler: My Part In His Downfall" and "Goodbye, Soldier".
A Review
Excellent compression of his war memoirs - recommended
Having read the 4 war memior books I then read this compressed version and relived the war according to Milligan. The man is a genius!! Although seemingly trivial you become aware of the effect war has on a mind.
All the favourite / funniest stories are there and for those of you who want a quick introduction to the mind of Milligan this is the book to read. Well thumbed I am now on my 2nd copy.
A book you can read and re-read and still find bits you missed before.

Attention! You're orders are to laugh!
spike milligan - a comic genius. inspiration for the likes of monty python, south park, and many other brands of zany surrealist humour.
here, spike recalls his days in the army as gunner milligan (and later lance bombadier) during the second world war. this book contains selected material from six of war memoir books (there are no extracts from the seventh and last book - you'll just have to buy this seperately).
as with anything spike milligan, his famous brand of humour is sprinkled liberally across the book - there are some dreadfully funny awful puns every few pages!
from spike's early days in south east london, through to his tour of duties in africa and italy - to his involvement with the entertainment services and army showbusiness - all the way through to his demobbing, this compilation of his memoirs is never dull.
if you like milligan, the goons, monty python, south park or want to know what army life was like back then (well, according to milligan anyway) - this book is for you.
available in paperback, or even as a set of audio books as read by milligan himself (although it's difficult to find) - i strongly urge everyone to get reading! that's an order!
