Book Description
Badjelly The Witch can turn children into sausages or chop them up to make boy-girl soup. She can turn policemen into apple trees or bananas into mice, and she is the wickedest witch in all the world! Tim and Rose's terrifying encounter with Badjelly is a classic fairy tale from Spike Milligan, a bubbling cauldron of imagination, fun and nonsense sure to enthral children of all ages.
Painstakingly handwritten by Spike in his own unique style, the lettering incorporates a whole series of hidden delights to help illustrate the story. Badjelly is presented here as never seen before, in full colour with many new illustrations.
Searching for Lucy, their lost cow, Tim and Rose become lost in the great black forest. There they meet Binklebonk the tree goblin, Mudwiggle the worm, Silly Sausage the grasshopper and Dinglemouse. When they are captured by Badjelly their only hope is that Dinglemouse can escape her evil clutches and fetch Jim the giant eagle to come to their rescue.
This charming fairy story appeared in print more than 25 years ago and has been in constant demand ever since, having been turned into a stage play for schools and even an animated TV special and video.
Now, for the time first ever, Badjelly The Witch is available in colour with more illustrations than any previous edition.

Reviews
My 5 year old can't get enough of this fab childrens book. Its hard to believe that it was written over 30 years ago. Love it
I was given this book when I was 6 years old and I loved it. I then lost it and for many years it was out of print but I still remember it vividly. What joy now it is back! Spike Milligan has written a wonderful children's book. I am going to buy a book for my niece and I am sure she will love it nearly 30 years after I first read it. I am also buying a copy for myself.
Bad Jelly the Witch is filled with everything a kid loves and is afraid of. Spike mixes it all together with that special brand of humour - and a little bit of magic - to make any kid feel as if they can overcome the witch. A great adventure, a great story, and great fun for young and old.
As kids we used to listen to this fantastic story on the radio every Sunday morning, back in the good old days when there was no morning TV.
I didn't realise until today that it was written by Spike Milligan. Thanks for nice memories Spike.
When Spike Milligan turns his comic genius to telling children's stories you are bound to get a classic. I have fond memories of Badjelly from my childhood so now I have children of my own I looked everywhere for Badjelly and the only place that I found it was right here.
Badjelly is the story of a little boy and girl who go in search of their cow who has been cownapped by Badjelly the witch. They meet all sorts of characters along the way that could only ever come form Spike's bizarre imagination. I don't want to spoil the surprise of finding out about these characters by telling you about them know. But you will never have come across heroes and villains like these. The book is reproduced in Spikes own handwriting and he does all the illustrations. If you have never seen what Spike Milligan is capable of this is a great place to start.
Long Live Bad Jelly :)
I adored this book as a child. It was just 'naughty' enough to make me giggle hysterically every time I read it. I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who has children. It would definately be a book your child will remember for always.
A Kid's Review
This book is quite scary to read at night. It has interesting words + pictures. Badjelly likes to eat boy-girl soup, and turn policemen into apple trees ,bananas into mice! She is the most wicked-to-much-witch.The auther has very good imagination .Witches often are cruel and ugly to look at,badjelly is the most cruel and ugly witch . I wonder how old she is or where she is now, maybe one day she'll jump out of somewhere and say"I'm going to get you !"It is one of the best book I've read.
Now I have a child
This book was one of the most memorable and enjoyable that I read as a child. In reading the other reviews I can see the sentiments and memories repeated.
Now I have my own child I am keen to share the inventive storytelling that stuck in my memory to this day and made books special. As clever as Dahl and and Tolkien, Milligan was a pioneer in the era of childrens writing where "yucky stuff abounds" fast becoming popular now as it appeals to kids
Love this book!
I finally have a copy! After years of searching for this classic from my childhood, a friend sent it to me from New Zealand. I too, think that it was only published in NZ in any real quantities.
If you've never read this book it is a must. The recording by Spike Milligan is even better! Hilarious for both kids and adults. (Very rare to find copies but can be found in online in MP3 format occasionally) Highly recommended.
Legendary!
This book had the most profound effect on me when I was a child. The images and characters that Milligan describes are still with me today. It is funny, entertaining and a must for children of all ages. I have a feeling that it is only available here in NZ. If you can get hold of a copy then you are very lucky!!
